Ischemia-reperfusion. All experiments were carried out (license A75-19-01, French Department of Agriculture) in accordance with the European Committee’s Council Directive and performed to comply with the ARRIVE (Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments) guidelines. Ischemia was induced in Wistar P15 rats (Janvier, Le Genest StIsle, France, 32.1±2.1 g, n=72) as previously reported [1]. Briefly, thermoregulated (37.0±0.5 C°) and anesthetized rats (induction 2% isoflurane in air; maintenance 1.5%] were exposed to proximal left middle cerebral artery electocoagulation (MCAo) combined with a transient (50 min) double occlusion of common carotid arteries (CCAo). Carotid blood-flow restoration was assessed by release of the carotid clips. Two investigators blind to the treatment group determined the size of the lesion in each animal at 48 hours after ischemia as previously described [2].
